Animal Support and Pick-Up Policy

The SCAWC has a limited capacity to respond to COMPASSION CALLS for dogs and cats who are:

  • abused

  • neglected

  • suffering

Please give us information such as:

  • the location of dog or cat

  • the condition of dog or cat

We request a donation of $20 or more to assist in the care and pick-up of this animal.

Report an animal in need:

  • AWC: Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:00pm – call 340-778-1650

  • After hours: call VIPD at 911

  • You can report abuse and neglect ANONYMOUSLY to Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or P3TIPS.com

Dog Tags-It is the Law

In the Virgin Islands, animals must be registered with the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center. Dog tags cost $5 per year and can be purchased at our Intake/Community Clinic located at 5 Corners, or at our adoption center, The Pet Place, next to Food Town. Dog License tag purchases are recorded and extremely beneficial in locating missing animals. In addition, the Territory requires that owners leash dogs while in public.

We strongly encourage pet owners to get their cats and dogs microchipped. This is the quickest and easiest way to be reunited with your lost pet. Every animal that comes to the shelter as a stray is scanned for a microchip. Your registered microchip links your contact information to your pet and the microchip proves invaluable at reuniting pets with their owners.
