HEALTHY WANDERING DOGS

Did you know it is common in the US Virgin Islands to let dogs and cats roam their neighborhoods? Often animals go on daily walkabouts. If you find a HEALTHY animal, please leave them in place! They probably live nearby!

SICK OR INJURED ANIMALS

If the animal is in immediate DANGER, INJURED or SUFFERING, please bring them to us! We will treat them and try to find their owners/re-home them.

AGGRESSIVE DOGS

If you encounter a dangerous or aggressive dog, please do not attempt to capture it. Please call us and we will try to respond. However, we are limited in staff and funding and must triage the high-volume of calls we receive on a daily basis. We also cannot remove an animal from private property.

LEASH LAWS

While there are leash laws in place, there is no enforcement of animal welfare laws in the VI. While we do not condone animals wandering in neighborhoods, we understand that it happens. In accordance with our mission and vision, our goal is to work within that framework and aim to promote humane treatment of animals using education and outreach, without judgement.

OUR LIMITATIONS

We thank the community for their passion in helping the animals of the US Virgin Islands, however, we ask that you respect our policies and inherent limitations. We always try our best to work within the framework and legal guidelines we must adhere to as an organization.

STRAY/COMMUNITY CATS

Thanks to our dedicated community and other non-profits such as Real Cruzan Cats, St. Croix has a robust community cat management program in place. Cats are routinely trapped, spayed/neutered and ear-tipped to indicate sterilization status. If you find a feral cat, pleas inquire about our trapping and TNVR program or CLICK HERE.

KITTENS

Please look at the following flowcharts to determine what to do with a stray kitten(s). Often newborn kittens are safer remaining with their mother than entering the shelter system.
